Chalet 65bis ...
This well-designed detached home for six is just 500m from the centre of the market town of Thônes. Set between the Aravis mountains and Lake Annecy, it's a great year-round destination for snow sports, hiking, biking and water sports.
There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants within an easy walk of Chalet 65bis, and Thônes has a great market on Saturday mornings - make sure you pick up some Reblochon cheese, for which this area is famous.
Despite being so close to the town centre, Chalet 65bis has a large flat garden, which is perfect for children's games. There's also a shady terrace where you can enjoy a cool drink on a warm evening, with a view of the mountains.
About the property ...
Up to six people will find a great level of comfort at two-storey Chalet 65bis, which has three bedrooms and three bathrooms.
An external staircase takes you to the first-floor entrance, which leads straight into the open-plan living area with an impressive beamed ceiling. A sofa and several chairs are arranged around a group of tables, with a television hung on the wall. There's also a work station which is perfect for those who want to work remotely during their stay.
The other end of the room is devoted to a bright and well-equipped kitchen with a central island and breakfast bar and a view of the mountains. There is plenty of room for six people at the dining table, which separates the kitchen from the seating area.
The first of the bedrooms is on this floor - it's a double room with an en suite shower room and separate WC.
There are two more bedrooms on the lower floor - a double room with an en suite shower and WC, and a twin room with an en suite bathroom. There's also a utility room on this floor, with a washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer. All of the bath and shower rooms are well-appointed and recently fitted.
Outside, you'll find a large flat garden which is laid to lawn. It's a great place to soak up the sun while the children play. In the winter, it's sure to be the scene of some great snowball fights! There's also a furnished terrace and another shady area with a dining table.
There is a parking area at the side of the house for up to three cars, and a separate room for storing ski equipment and bikes.
About the area ...
Chalet 65bis is in a great location to make the most of the winter sports offered in the Aravis ski resorts. Just 20 minutes (12km) from the ski stations of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, you can ski somewhere new every day. Your Aravis ski pass also covers the Manigod area, giving you 220km of pistes of varying levels to explore, as well as extensive off-piste action. Parking is available at the ski stations, or use the network of ski buses, which are free with your Aravis ski pass or the Carte d’hote.
Cross-country skiers will discover a great variety of trails from nearby St-Jean-de-Sixt - pick up a map from the village tourist office.
With the charming town of Thônes on your doorstep, non-skiers are particularly well catered for at Chalet 65bis. The town has plenty of shops and restaurants and a cinema, as well as a packed programme of entertainment in summer and winter. If you fancy exploring the mountains, try snow-shoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
In the summer, a holiday at Chalet 65bis offers you the best of both worlds - mountain adventure and lakeside relaxation. There are great walking and biking trails in the mountains around Thônes, or you could drive to the beautiful village of Menthon St Bernard on the banks of Lake Annecy in 20 minutes. Annecy itself is just a little further away.
St-Jean-de-Sixt is one of the few places where you can try Bun-J ride, a cross between ski jumping and bungee jumping. Other more traditional pastimes are available too - marked footpaths crisscross the mountains, or you can explore by mountain bike or on horseback.
There are indoor and outdoor swimming pool complexes in Thônes, Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz, or if you're looking for something a little more challenging, there are climbing schools, via ferrata routes, tree-top adventure parks, canyoning, white-water rafting and paragliding all nearby.

The OVO Network Review
Chalet 65bis is a detached, two-storey home for 6 with three bedrooms and three bathrooms.
Its location in the charming market town of Thônes is perfect for a group who would like to explore the Aravis mountains but still want all the facilities of a busy town nearby. But despite the town location, there's a surprising amount of outside space, with a large lawned garden and two terrace areas.
The three double bedrooms all have their own bath or shower room - a real bonus when you're all rushing to get ready for a day out. We also love the open-plan living area, with a cosy seating area for watching TV or catching up with friends, a fabulous kitchen with plenty of space to cook up a tasty meal and a dining table big enough to all eat together.
There's also a useful work station - with more and more people choosing to extend their holiday and work remotely, it's a popular feature with guests.
There's parking for up to three cars in front of the chalet, which is set on a through road. This may not suit everyone, but it does mean that the access is always clear of snow, and that it's easy to get in and out of the town.
All in all, we think Chalet 65bis will be a popular year-round choice with families, especially those with older children who will enjoy being close to a busy town that they can walk to, and those who want to enjoy the Aravis mountains and the medieval lakeside town of Annecy, both of which are an easy drive away.
The external and internal stairs mean it may not be ideal for those with reduced mobility.

From the owner
Mickaël
A village house just a stone's throw from the town centre, Chalet 65bis was built in 1906 as a workers' cottage and belonged to my grandmother's aunt. It is located in the town of Thônes, just a few minutes' walk from all amenities.
I was given the chance to buy it in 2016, by which time it had been uninhabited for over 30 years. I set about renovating it, and it is now a modern, comfortable home with a large outdoor terrace where you can while away the summer evenings.
Chalet 65bis also has a large flat garden where children can play.
I will be happy answer any questions to help you make the most of your stay.
