About Lou Amourier ...
Sit on the terrace at Lou Amourier, enjoy the scent of the roses and look out over the stone houses of the village of Cotignac and the caves beyond … life doesn’t get much better.
This contemporary house is just a short stroll from the bars, restaurants and popular market in this picture-perfect village, and comes with three terraces, an outdoor pool and totally enclosed gardens - your very own corner of paradise.
The house and garden have been designed to make the most of the sunshine, the shade and the stunning scenery - all the ingredients you need for the perfect holiday in Provence.
The property ...
Just a short stroll from the popular village of Cotignac, Lou Amourier, which sleeps six people is the perfect place for a special holiday with family and friends.
Set in enclosed gardens, there are three terraces to enjoy - a pool terrace with sunbeds and stunning views, a shady terrace with a barbecue and dining table where you can enjoy long lunches under an awning, and the main terrace with a boules piste, with shade provided by the mulberry tree which gives the house its name.
The fabulous climate has influenced the layout of the house too, with most of the bedrooms on the cooler ground floor. Here you’ll find a twin room, a double room, the main bathroom and and another sitting room with plenty of space to play.
Stairs lead from this room up to the well-equipped kitchen and the open-plan living area, which has a dining area and cosy sofas - you’ll notice straight away how shades of white and pale grey have been combined with ceramic-tiled floors to keep the temperature down. However, there is an open fire for cooler evenings!
A modern extension provides two more stunning rooms on this floor - one is a conservatory with two glass walls and access to a balcony with fabulous views over the village, vineyards and the caves, some of which are inhabited - the view is even better at night, when the cliff face is illuminated.
A similar view is shared by the next room - a stunning bedroom with a glass wall which opens on to the terrace - what a delight it must be to lie in bed with a gentle breeze wafting in from the garden …
There’s a contemporary Scandinavian feel to this property, with cool neutral tones and top-quality soft furnishings and bed linens. As with every OVO Network property, your booking includes free wifi, end-of-stay cleaning, fresh towels and the beds will be made up for your arrival. Your holiday starts the minute you walk through the door!
About the area ...
If a true taste of life in Provence is what you’re after, Lou Amourier is the perfect choice. It’s just a short walk to Cotignac (uphill on the way back!), where you can enjoy the popular Tuesday market, or the regular flea market. There are plenty of delightful shops and restaurants to choose from, or you could sit and enjoy a coffee under the plane trees in the Cours Gambetta.
There is no shortage of wonderful walks in the area - you might like to visit the waterfall at Sillans le Cascade, or perhaps the Saint-Joseph monastery to the west of the village. There is also a circular walk of the village which takes in the main historical sights - just follow the signposts from the Quatres Fontaines in the centre.
Visitors are welcome at many of the local vineyards, where you can taste the wine and local olive oil - check with the tourist office for more details.
Cotignac is famous for its troglodyte caves, some of which are still inhabited today. It’s well worth the climb and the €2 entrance fee for the views alone, but check opening times with the tourist office.

Location
Cotignac - Var - Provence
The beautiful medieval town of Cotignac has long been a favourite with tourists.
Dominated by a limestone cliff studded with troglodyte caves, and surrounded by lavender fields and vineyards, you would be hard pushed to imagine a more typical Provencal destination.
With fabulous hiking and biking, wonderful markets, and summer open air theatre, there’s plenty to do, or relax and enjoy the wonderful food and prestigious wines of the area.

The OVO Network Review
The 3 bedroom 2 bathroom Maison Lou Amourier is spread over 2 floors and 200 m2 of floor space.
The house is ideal for family groups or groups of friends. Its proximity to the stunning village of Cotignac mean that discerning guests can easily and quickly experience the best that a Provençal village deep in rosé territory has to offer.
With a very active tourist office, there are plenty of events to visit. Wine buffs will enjoy visiting the many world famous vineyards within a short walk or drive, our favourites are Mirabeau, Commandeur and Carpe Diem.
The beautiful Provencal scenery and vegetation provide the scents and sights of a Provençal dream holiday, there is plenty to do locally all summer long, for all ages.
The house is very comfortable and well equipped especially the kitchen, which is no real surprise, given that the owners also own a restaurant. With subtle gentle colours and natural textures throughout, the house feels light, airy, spacious and importantly cool! The two ground floor bedrooms, bathroom and the kids' area stay at a cooler temperature.
On the first floor the blinds and sliding glass doors provide welcome shade and relief from the high summer temperatures. There is an awning above the outdoor dining table next to the barbecue, and the Mulberry Tree the house is named after provides intricate patterned shade on a different terrace.
With terraces and/ or balconies on each of the four sides of the property and gorgeous planting, it's always possible to find welcome shade or full on sunshine throughout the day, whichever you prefer. The pool, terraces and outdoor shower offer relief from the heat.
The garden is totally secure and private.
The walk back up to the house might be more challenging than the walk down to the village, but not having to drive around the narrow cobbled streets looking for a parking space is a real bonus.
We have restricted the adult capacity to 6 as the kids' sleeping area is not a traditional bedroom, has no windows, and is used by others accessing the bathroom and two of the bedrooms. There is plenty of storage space for those wanting to use this space as a bedroom, and a box of kids' toys and books stashed under the bed!

From the owner
Hanne N. & Tom Helge
Our love affair with Provence began in 1990, during our very first visit, we have returned almost every year since. The dream was always to find a place of our own.
When we really started searching in earnest some good friends of ours asked if they could join us. Our partnership remained intact for 10 years.
Now the house is ours, and not only our children, but also our grandchildren love coming to stay here - Maison Lou Amourier is our family home from home.
Cotignac and the surrounding area is rich in fabulous quality ingredients such as wild herbs, goats cheese and rosé wine - all sheer heaven for us, as we are restaurateurs, we also have a cheese shop in our native Norway, and love cooking. We LOVE coming down for the truffle season at the beginning of the year.
Popping into the garden for fresh thyme and rosemary or searching for and finding wild asparagus around Easter time is a real thrill.
We have tried to create a home which can be enjoyed equally whether it's just the two of us visiting, or the whole family, or when we visit with friends. We really enjoy the place and area all year round.
Other passions we take time to enjoy when we're here include walking in the mountains, or running in the mornings; Cotignac is the perfect place to indulge ourselves! When is it really hot in the summertime we go the one of the beautiful waterfalls in the neighborhood - they are simply magnificent.
We truly hope you enjoy our house, our cookbooks, and our lovely village.
