Swimming around Lake Annecy

From supervised paddling pools for toddlers to wild swimming, nothing beats Lake Annecy

Is Lake Annecy warm enough for swimming?

Yes! Lake Annecy gets warm. During the peak summer months of July and August, the water temperature of Lake Annecy can reach around 27° celsius (81 degrees Farenheit), and the water usually stays warm into September and October. Regardless of the water temperature, swimmers are spotted using the lake throughout the year.

Which Annecy beach is the best?

With such a wide choice of beaches to choose from around Lake Annecy, finding the right beach is key. Albigny beach is the largest around Lake Annecy, but it also might be the most crowded because it's a free beach. And if your furry companion is with you, head to Duingt beach on the west side of the lake, which is one of the few beaches that accepts dogs.

If you would like to spend a day beachside in Annecy, take a look at our dedicated page on Annecy beaches, which provides lots more information, such as which ones feature a diving board or a paddling pool for kids, and whether they have snack bars or restaurants on site.

Swim in pristine water

Spring, summer, autumn and winter, swimmers love Lake Annecy — and it's no wonder why, given its reputation as the cleanest lake in Europe. From exhilarating winter dips to leisurely summer paddles with the kids, the lake is loved by locals and tourists alike.

Such clean water makes for an abundance of happy, healthy underwater wildlife. And with such clear water, fish and crayfish are visible right from the water's edge. Snorkelers and divers won't be disappointed.

Open water swimming in Lake Annecy

Outside of special events, such as the annual Lake Annecy Swim (Traversee du Lac), make sure you know what the rules are for swimming in Lake Annecy before you jump from swimming spot to diving spot! Wild swimming is great fun, but make sure you take care.

There's easy access to the water from many of the villages around the lake, including Menthon St Bernard, Talloires beach and St Jorioz, and if you'd rather stick to the safety of a swimming pool, the popular Marquisats pool is in a great location, between the town of Annecy and the lake.
