Maison Guigone...
The delightful Maison Guigone, just five minutes walk from the historic walled town of Beaune in Burgundy, is the perfect base for visitors who want to discover the rich wine heritage of this region.
You won't need a car to explore from this three-storey townhouse between the vineyards and the town. It's a short walk to the shops, restaurants and markets, and to the historic Hospices de Beaune, which was built as a refuge for the poor in the mid 15th century and now hosts the annual wine auction on the third Sunday in November.
The area is famous for its vineyards, and the local villages will be familiar to you from the labels of wine bottles, but you don't need to go far for a tasting - there are plenty of cellars in the town itself where you can enjoy the local wines. There are also plenty of restaurants close to Maison Guigone too, unless you'd rather pick up some fresh produce at the market and cook up your own delicious dinner in the well-equipped kitchen.
The owners of the house are well-travelled, and the classic yet contemporary decor of this home is enhanced by objects they have picked up around the world - it's a really charming home where you can make yourself very comfortable.
About the property...
Maison Guigone sleeps six people in three bedrooms, with two bathrooms, over three floors, and is air-conditioned throughout. Parking is available in the street outside the house.
The open plan living area is on the ground floor, with a cosy seating area, round dining table and chairs and a sleek contemporary kitchen with all you need to rustle up a delicious meal.
An old oak staircase leads up to the first floor, where you'll find the elegant master bedroom, which has a sofa and an en suite bathroom with a separate shower. There's also a separate toilet on this floor.
There are two more double bedrooms on the top floor, the old attic, which share a shower room and a separate toilet.
The house is decorated throughout in neutral shades with oak floors, bringing a sense of calm. Brushed pine has been used in the attic rooms to bring a flavour of the mountains, where the owner spends a lot of her time. Maison Guigone is the perfect place for a group of friends looking to discover the wines and gastronomy of the area, but there's also plenty to interest families in this beautiful region.
About the area...
It's the wonderful wines produced in the Burgundy region which attract a lot of visitors to this beautiful area. The town is home to a great choice of wine vaults where you can sample and buy some of the best vintages, but booking is essential.
The highlight of the wine calendar in Beaune is the annual auction at the Hospices de Beaune on the third Sunday in November. One of the region's most significant wine producers, Les Hospices sells off much of its produce, mainly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, at this three-day festival. Even if wine is not your thing, it's worth a visit to Les Hospices for its stunning architecture and the museum.
If you'd prefer to get out to the vineyards themselves, why not cycle, on the Voie des Vignes? This 36km linear trail will take you from Beaune via Pommard and Meursault to Santenay, and then on to Nolay. You’ll pass through beautiful vineyards with names that you are sure to recognise - be sure to make time for a tasting or two. There are plenty of places where you can hire bikes in Beaune.
Take time out during a day’s sightseeing to relax in the peaceful Parc de la Bouzaire. Younger visitors will enjoy the ducks and fish in the small pond, and it’s a great place for a picnic. There are plenty of paths to explore, and the park is a great starting place for cycling tours of the vineyards.

The OVO Network Review
Maison Guigone is a three-storey townhouse for six guests close to the centre of the historic town of Beaune. With three double bedrooms and two bathrooms, we think it is a great choice for three couples visiting the region to discover its wonderful wines, or even for a family looking to explore this wonderful area.
The open-plan ground floor means there is plenty of space for guests, while the first floor is given over to a very elegant master suite. The two bedrooms on the top floor share a bathroom, but the toilet is separate.
The whole house is air-conditioned, which summer guests will be very grateful for!
The owner has recently renovated the house, using old wood and neutral tones to create a very welcoming home from home. Souvenirs from her travels around the world make it a fascinating place to stay.
Although there's no garden at the property, you're a two minute walk from open countryside in one direction and the Parc de la Bouzaire in the other, which is a great place to relax.
There's so much to discover in the area around Beaune, and one of the best ways to take it all in is by bike - there are plenty of places to rent cycles in Beaune and you see so much more when you take life at a slower pace.
Beaune is home to a huge selection of restaurants, with food from all over the world. But while you're here, do try the Burgundy delicacy - escargots!
The traditional recipe calls for them to be cooked in the shell, with a herb and garlic butter - delicious with a glass of dry white wine!

From the owner
Caroline
"Having spent my teenage years in Beaune, when the opportunity presented itself to buy this charming pied a terre in this amazing location, a five-minute walk from the historic city centre, I jumped at the chance.
The house is a great base for me and my family when we are in France visiting family, or attending the many events in and around town, the markets, the restaurants, the Burgundy vineyards, etc. It is so easy to live very well in Beaune!
The original stone house has stood here for over a century, and was last renovated in the 1950s. We stripped everything back and then rebuilt, keeping as many of the charming features as we could that we discovered during the renovation while completely upgrading the property, adding bathrooms, a new kitchen, and reconfiguring the spaces to create a house for six guests.
We’ve decorated the property with treasures we have picked up on our travels, to create a warm, comfortable space, with a contemporary feel.
Having completed the renovations, and enjoyed staying in the property ourselves, we have decided to let the property to others who want to come and spend some time in the beautiful Bourgogne region, when we are travelling again ourselves.
The house is named after Guigone de Salins, the inspirational and incredibly forward-thinking benefactress of Les Hospices de Beaune, built in the Middle Ages, parts of which remained open until the 1980s. We would highly recommend that you make the time to visit to learn about the history of this incredible unique project.
We hope that you enjoy your stay close to the historic medieval centre, and also of course to the magnificent wines, produced in the world-renowned Burgundy vineyards.
Happy holidays"
