Manoir Montesano

Manoir Montesano is set back from the main road, giving you privacy as well as easy access to the neighbouring villages. A narrow gauge railway links Villars with the town of Bex and the Col de Bretaye mountain pass, trams run to neighbouring villages, and in high season, free buses run every 15 minutes, so it's easy to get around without a car.

About the property...

This elegant Swiss villa offers space, luxury and comfort for eight guests, with the accommodation set over four floors.

Set back from the road, the entrance on the first floor leads you into a spacious lobby, a WC and the beautiful, well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar and a "hatch" through to the dining area. Walk through into an airy seating area, with armchairs, a sofa in the turret space and a large formal dining table. But your eye will be drawn to the stylish windows, which open onto a large balcony, furnished with several tables and chairs – in good weather, it's the perfect place to start the day with breakfast or end it with a coffee.

Take the stairs down to the ground floor, which is the perfect place to relax. There's another seating area, with a large sofa and chairs arranged around a widescreen television, perfect for film nights. There's also a drinks fridge, a games room and a beautiful round dining table in the turret. Doors open onto the terrace where you'll find the pool/table tennis table, and steps down to the terraced garden and pétanque court. The sauna is also on this floor as well as a shower, WC and a laundry room.

Two of the four bedrooms are on the second floor – one can be arranged with a kingsize bed or two singles, and has a desk, doors to the balcony and an en-suite shower room. The other has a large double bed with a desk and doors to the balcony. There's also a bathroom with a bath and separate shower, and a well-equipped gym on this floor.

There are two more bedrooms on the top floor, one of which is a large double, and the other can be arranged with a kingsize or two single beds. These rooms share a spacious bathroom. There's also a desk on the landing for those who want to work remotely.

Manoir Montesano has underground parking below the house, and a secure kit room for storing bikes, skis and other outdoor equipment. As well as the terraced garden, there's a lawned area shared with a neighbouring apartment building, where children can let off steam. Guests also have access to shared tennis courts.

About the area...

Set in the smart resort of Villars-sur-Ollon in Switzerland, and surrounded by superb skiing, hiking and cycling, you'll find plenty to keep you busy when you stay at Manoir Montesano.

Snow sports are the main attraction in the winter. The telecabine for the ski area of Villars/Gryon/Les Diablerets (1224-2120m) is just 1km from the villa, and the village is also linked by shuttle to the skiing area of Glacier 3000. Together, they offer more than 130km of pistes for all levels. Children can gain confidence in the snow gardens before progressing to the snow parks. There's plenty of scope for intermediate skiers, while those with more experience can tackle the Combe d’Audon’s challenging black or the Red Run – together, they offer 8km of slopes and a drop of 1,700m.

There's plenty to do off the slopes too, with snow-shoeing, winter hiking, ice-diving, ice-skating, hot-air ballooning, tobogganing and dog sledding among the many ways to fill your time.

Outside the ski season, the main attractions are the spectacular scenery, the walking trails and the cycling. Whether you want to head for the high mountains, relax by a mountain lake or observe the wildlife, there are plenty of options for walkers of all ages and abilities.

Cyclists will find plenty of variety too, with beautiful routes for road cyclists, breathtaking trails for mountain bikes and thrilling downhill routes. The World Cycling Centre in nearby Aigle (18km) is a training base for some of Europe's greatest cyclists, and guests can book taster sessions in the velodrome or on the BMX track.

There are plenty of other activities to try while you’re here. Play a round on Villars’ superb 18-hole golf course, try fishing in a mountain lake, potholing, horse-riding or relax in a hot-water pool with a view of the mountains at the Bains de Villars.
