Immerse yourself in the mountains at this cosy chalet for two in the secluded hamlet of Bionnassay. Although you'll be just 8km from the ski station of Saint-Gervais with its many shops and restaurants, the wonderful views of Mont Vorassay and the Refuge du Goûter will make you feel as if you're in the middle of nowhere.
It's perfect for a couple seeking a quiet retreat, surrounded by nature.
Petit Mazot La Chandelle, a former farm building, was totally renovated in 2021, and now provides a unique retreat in a contemporary mountain style. Despite its size, it provides well-equipped accommodation for two people.
Larger groups can book Petit Mazot La Chandelle with Chalet La Chandelle (12 guests) and/or the Grand Mazot La Chandelle (up to four guests), giving a total capacity of up to 18 guests.
About the property...
Petit Mazot La Chandelle is a former Alpine farm building which has been cleverly converted to create a comfortable mountain holiday home property for two guests.
The accommodation is all on one floor - the entrance takes you into the kitchen, with a small dining table at one end and a large double bed (180cm) tucked into an alcove. There's also a shower room with a WC.
The mazot has a garden with a table and bench seating, where you can enjoy wonderful views of the mountains. A parking space is available on site.
About the area...
Saint-Gervais, as well as nearby Combloux and Megève, are part of the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area, and a 30-minute drive to the Espace Diamant, which comprises Praz-sur-Arly, Bellecombe, Crest-Voland, Flumet, and Les Saisies. This area played host to the winter Olympics in 1992.
Experienced skiers looking for some stunning night skiing should head for the Vallée Blanche - do hire a guide for this 23km run which, with a 2,000m drop, will take you from the Aiguille du Midi to the Mer de Glace, an almost surreal experience under a full moon.
For a change from skiing, why not try dog-sledding or snow-shoe walking, which are both available within a short drive of the Petit Mazot La Chandelle. For a little more adventure, why not try ice climbing, via ferrata or paragliding.
In the summer, the mountains become the domain of walkers and cyclists. There's so much to see in this varied landscape, explore the Argentière glacier or perhaps the Baroque footpath, a 20km trail from Combloux to Les Contamines-Montjoie, which takes you past some of the area's finest baroque buildings. Look out for marmots along the way!
Fancy a swim? Head for Lac de Passy where you can relax in the pure waters fed by mountain streams, surrounded by wildflowers and stunning views of Mont Blanc. Take a picnic and relax while the kids enjoy the great play area. There's also a treetop adventure course, pedalos and mini-golf as well as windsurfing, paddle boarding and fishing - it's a great family day out.
And at the end of an exhilarating day, return to the Petit Mazot La Chandelle, enjoy the sunset from the garden or get together on the cosy sofa and plan your next mountain adventure.

Please Note
The mazot is in a secluded location, 200 metres from the main road. A tarmac road provides easy access by car to drop your luggage, shopping etc. A car park is available 100 metres from the mazot.
In the event of heavy snowfall during the winter season, the road is cleared of snow every day. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended. If required, the owner offers two small 4x4 vehicles for hire. Contact us to find out more.

Holidaymakers have been flocking to this elegant spa town since the 1900s - and with good reason.
As the gateway to the Evasion Mont Blanc ski area, you’ve great access to more than 450km of well-groomed slopes, walking and bike trails, and at the end of the day you can unwind in the thermal baths, perhaps adding a spa treatment or two! Saint Gervais-les-Bains is a great choice for families too - the town has Famille Plus status, so there’s always something going on to keep children entertained.

Petit Mazot La Chandelle is a beautifully-renovated farm building in Bionnassay, a small village above the busy resort of Saint-Gervais (8km), but you'll feel as if you're in the middle of nowhere!
This tiny home sleeps just two guests, making it perfect for a couple seeking a romantic mountain getaway. There's a large double bed in an alcove, and a shower room with a WC.
The chalet also has a well-equipped kitchen and a small dining table.
Outside, there's a table with bench seating where you can enjoy a drink or a meal in front of the stunning mountain views.
The mazot enjoys a secluded position at the end of a 200m track, just off a communal road. Although the communal road is cleared of snow daily in the winter, it might be difficult to access after heavy snow.
The owners have two 4x4 cars which they rent out - please check at the time of booking if you would like to use these.

We love beautiful, inspiring places with a soulful quality. We fell in love with this chalet and its two mazots, which we completely renovated between 2021 and 2023 - the joy of working as an architect on your own home - to bring out the beauty of wood and stone in this very special natural setting.
The last hamlet in the village of Bionnassay, at an altitude of 1,400 metres, in the heart of the Mont Blanc massif, La Chandelle is in a nature reserve, facing the Goûter dome and its famous refuge, the last stop for mountaineers on their ascent to Mont Blanc. At nightfall, you can watch from the terrace as the climbers stream up the mountain in search of the summit, lighting up the slopes with their many lights.
It's a spectacle that plunges us into a deep reverie.
We love contrasts (going from the hectic atmosphere of a big city to the absolute silence of the mountains), so we'd like you to enjoy this magical experience of disconnection and immersion in nature at La Chandelle, just a few minutes from the St Gervais le Fayet TGV station.
Whether you are meditating in front of the Aiguille de Bioassay hiking, snowshoeing, or skiing around the chalet, heading to the ski resorts of Megève or St Gervais, or watching the deer with a telescope in the autumn, you will experience something both intense and rejuvenating here. So close and yet so far from civilization.

“I highly recommend this place”
I highly recommend this place for nature, mountain, and hiking lovers. The property is located in a quiet and quiet village reachable by car via a two-way street with a return 15 min from saint gervais le bain. It has a nice outdoor space with chairs and a coffee table to eat out and possibly even have a barbecue. The apartment is very welcoming and essential, not for more than two people, with everything you need to spend even more days of vacation. Parking is convenient, free and very close.
