Immerse yourself in the mountains at this cosy chalet in the secluded hamlet of Bionnassay. Although you'll be just 8km from the ski station of Saint-Gervais with its many shops and restaurants, the wonderful views of Mont Vorassay and the Refuge du Goûter will make you feel as if you're in the middle of nowhere.
It's perfect for those seeking a quiet retreat, surrounded by nature.
Grand Mazot La Chandelle, a former farm building, was totally renovated in 2021, and now provides a unique retreat for up to four people in a contemporary mountain style. Despite its size, it provides well-equipped accommodation for up to four people.
Larger groups can book Grand Mazot La Chandelle with Chalet La Chandelle (10 guests) and/or the Petit Mazot La Chandelle (two guests), giving a total capacity of up to 16 guests.
About the property...
Grand Mazot La Chandelle is a former Alpine farm building which has been cleverly converted to create a comfortable, two-storey holiday property for up to four people.
The entrance on the ground floor takes you into the dining room, with a separate cosy seating area on your right. There's no television, but wifi is provided, along with a selection of board games. There's a well-equipped kitchen along one wall, with a washing machine, and a shower room with a WC.
Stairs lead to a mezzanine bedroom under the eaves, which has a double bed and two single beds.
The mazot has a garden with a table and bench seating, where you can enjoy wonderful views of the mountains.
About the area...
Saint-Gervais, as well as nearby Combloux and Megève, are part of the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area, and a 30-minute drive to the Espace Diamant, which comprises Praz-sur-Arly, Bellecombe, Crest-Voland, Flumet, and Les Saisies.
Experienced skiers looking for some stunning night skiing should head for the Vallée Blanche - do hire a guide for this 23km run which, with a 2,000m drop, will take you from the Aiguille du Midi to the Mer de Glace, an almost surreal experience under a full moon. It's also possible using touring or hybrid skis to ascend from Grand Mazot La Chandelle to the Col de Voza, where you can ski in the Les Houches area.
For a change from skiing, why not try dog-sledding or snow-shoe walking, which are both available within a short drive of Grand Mazot La Chandelle. For a little more adventure, why not try ice climbing, via ferrata or paragliding?
In the summer, the mountains become the domain of walkers and cyclists. There's so much to see in this varied landscape, explore the Bionnassay or Argentière glacier or perhaps the Baroque footpath, a 20km trail from Combloux to Les Contamines-Montjoie, which takes you past some of the area's finest baroque buildings. Look out for marmots along the way!
Fancy a swim? Head for Lac de Passy where you can relax in the pure waters fed by mountain streams, surrounded by wildflowers and stunning views of Mont Blanc. Take a picnic and relax while the kids enjoy the great play area. There's also a treetop adventure course, pedalos and mini-golf as well as windsurfing, paddle boarding and fishing - it's a great family day out.

Please Note
The mazot is in a secluded location, 200 metres from the main road. A tarmac road provides easy access by car to drop your luggage, shopping etc. A car park is available 100 metres from the mazot.
In the event of heavy snowfall during the winter season, the road is cleared of snow every day. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended. If required, the owner offers two small 4x4 vehicles for hire. Contact us to find out more.

Holidaymakers have been flocking to this elegant spa town since the 1900s - and with good reason.
As the gateway to the Evasion Mont Blanc ski area, you’ve great access to more than 450km of well-groomed slopes, walking and bike trails, and at the end of the day you can unwind in the thermal baths, perhaps adding a spa treatment or two! Saint Gervais-les-Bains is a great choice for families too - the town has Famille Plus status, so there’s always something going on to keep children entertained.

Grand Mazot La Chandelle is a beautifully-renovated farm building in Bionnassay, a small village above the busy resort of Saint-Gervais (8km), but you'll feel as if you're in the middle of nowhere!
The mazot sleeps up to four guests, with one bedroom and a shower room. It's rare to find such well-appointed properties for small groups, especially detached ones!
The ground floor has a dining room, a well-equipped kitchen with a washing machine, a shower room with WC and a seating area with a sofa and chairs. There's no television in the mazot but there is wifi, and the owners have provided a selection of board games.
Upstairs, there's a delightful bedroom under the eaves, with a large double bed and two single beds. Head height is restricted, but the abundance of beams and the windows with heart-shaped shutters make this a very cosy space.
Outside, there's a table with bench seating where you can enjoy a drink or a meal in front of the stunning mountain views.
The mazot enjoys a secluded position at the end of a 200m track, just off a communal road. Although the communal road is cleared of snow daily in the winter, it might be difficult to access after heavy snow.
The owners have two 4x4 cars which they rent out - please check at the time of booking if you would like to use these.
Groups can book the Grand Mazot La Chandelle with Chalet La Chandelle (12) and/or the Petit Mazot La Chandelle (two guests), giving a total capacity of up to 18 guests.

We love beautiful, inspiring places with a soulful quality. We fell in love with this chalet and its two mazots, which we completely renovated between 2021 and 2023 - the joy of working as an architect on your own home - to bring out the beauty of wood and stone in this very special natural setting.
The last hamlet in the village of Bionnassay, at an altitude of 1,400 metres, in the heart of the Mont Blanc massif, La Chandelle is in a nature reserve, facing the Goûter dome and its famous refuge, the last stop for mountaineers on their ascent to Mont Blanc. At nightfall, you can watch from the terrace as the climbers stream up the mountain in search of the summit, lighting up the slopes with their many lights.
It's a spectacle that plunges us into a deep reverie.
We love contrasts (going from the hectic atmosphere of a big city to the absolute silence of the mountains), so we'd like you to enjoy this magical experience of disconnection and immersion in nature at La Chandelle, just a few minutes from the St Gervais le Fayet TGV station.
Whether you are meditating in front of the Aiguille de Bioassay hiking, snowshoeing, or skiing around the chalet, heading to the ski resorts of Megève or St Gervais, or watching the deer with a telescope in the autumn, you will experience something both intense and rejuvenating here. So close and yet so far from civilization.
