Chalet Piccolo...
You'll waste no time getting on the pistes when you stay at this chalet for 14 (max 10 adults and 4 children), which is just across the road from the Chattrix chair lift in Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce. When there's plenty of snow, you can ski straight from the chalet, but at other times you'll just need to walk a few steps to the lift to explore the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski domaine.
Outside the ski season, you'll have a great choice of walks from your doorstep, as well as lake swimming in nearby Combloux, paddle boarding, fishing and much more. There are many marked cycle routes in the area and the tourist office at Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce has been awarded the Accueil Vélo label for its great cycling services, so riders of all levels will find plenty to challenge them.
When you return to your chalet at the end of an exciting day in the mountains, you will be able to enjoy a game of chess in front of the fire, relax in the sauna or get together on the terrace with views of the Mont-Blanc mountains.
If you're planning to work remotely during your stay, several of the bedrooms have desks.
Just 6.5km from the Alpine resort and spa town of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce boasts its own ski area, historic churches and chapels, and several shops and restaurants, including the Michelin-recommended La Table d'Armante. It's also linked to the 445km of the Évasion Mont-Blanc area, so there's always somewhere new to discover.
A dedicated concierge service is available at Chalet Piccolo. Guests can book services (at an extra cost) such as extra cleaning, breakfast, grocery deliveries, ski hire and pass. The concierge can also make reservations for restaurants, spa sessions, guides etc and arrange airport transfers, laundry and ironing and the services of a chef or masseur.
About the property...
Accommodation at Chalet Piccolo is arranged over three floors. The property sleeps up to 14 guests (max 10 adults and 4 children), with six bedrooms, each with their own bath or shower room.
The main entrance on the lower ground floor leads you into a spacious hall, with a well-equipped ski room with plenty of storage and a heated boot rack. Once you've left your outdoor equipment in here, you could head next door to the sauna, which has its own shower and a separate WC. There are four bedrooms on this floor: two double rooms with their own shower rooms and access to the terrace; another large double with a bathroom and access to the terrace, and finally, a charming bunk room for four children with a TV, room to play and an en-suite shower room.
There are two stunning master suites on the top floor, both with bathrooms with shower and separate WCs. Both also have desks, spacious dressing areas with plenty of storage and doors to the balcony – step out and enjoy your morning coffee while you soak up the stunning views! One of the bedrooms also has a beautiful freestanding bath.
The ground floor is devoted to a bright and spacious living area. The huge kitchen has a large central island with a breakfast bar at one end, and comes with everything you need to cook for a large group, including an induction hob, oven, microwave and dishwasher. There's also a separate laundry room with a washing machine and a dryer.
There's plenty of room for everyone to eat together at the large dining table, which is flooded with light, thanks to the large windows and doors to the covered terrace.
After dinner, get together on the large L-shaped sofa and chairs around the fire, watch a film together or perhaps enjoy a game of chess. Alternatively, you could take a drink out onto the terrace and watch for shooting stars.
About the area...
Saint-Gervais, along with nearby Les Contamines, Combloux and Megève, are part of the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area. For even more choice, it's a 30-minute drive to the Espace Diamant, which comprises Praz-sur-Arly, Bellecombe, Crest-Voland, Flumet, and Les Saisies.
Experienced skiers looking for some stunning night skiing should head for the Vallée Blanche – do hire a guide for this 23km run which, with a 2,000m drop, will take you from the Aiguille du Midi to the Mer de Glace, an almost surreal experience under a full moon.
For a change from skiing, why not try dog-sledding or snow-shoe walking, which are both available within a short drive of Chalet Piccolo. For a little more adventure, why not try ice climbing, via ferrata or paragliding.
When the snow melts, the mountains become the domain of walkers and cyclists. There's so much to see in this varied landscape – explore the Argentière glacier or perhaps the Baroque footpath, a 20km trail from Combloux to Les Contamines-Montjoie, which takes you past some of the area's finest baroque buildings. Look out for marmots along the way!
On a hot day, head for the swimming lake in Combloux or the Lac de Passy, where you can relax in the pure waters fed by mountain streams and surrounded by wild flowers and stunning views of Mont Blanc. Take a picnic and relax while the kids enjoy the great play area. There's also a treetop adventure course, pedalos and mini-golf as well as windsurfing, paddle boarding and fishing – it's a great family day out.
An excursion to Mont Blanc is not to be missed – the scenic Mont Blanc Tramway, a rack and pinion railway will take you to the foot of the Bionnassay Glacier at a height of 2,372m.

Holidaymakers have been flocking to this elegant spa town since the 1900s - and with good reason.
As the gateway to the Evasion Mont Blanc ski area, you’ve great access to more than 450km of well-groomed slopes, walking and bike trails, and at the end of the day you can unwind in the thermal baths, perhaps adding a spa treatment or two! Saint Gervais-les-Bains is a great choice for families too - the town has Famille Plus status, so there’s always something going on to keep children entertained.

Chalet Piccolo, in Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce, is a three-storey, detached chalet for up to 14 guests (10 adults and 4 children), with six bedrooms, each with their own shower or bathroom.
Despite its name, there's nothing small about this well-appointed chalet – there are three double bedrooms and a bunk room for four on the lower ground floor, and two stunning master suites on the top floor, each with a spacious bath and shower room, a desk and access onto a terrace where you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Mont-Blanc mountains.
The bright and airy living area is on the ground floor. There's a large, modular sofa and chairs around the fire, a quiet chess table and a large dining table where you can all eat together.
Preparing meals is a pleasure in the open-plan kitchen, which has an oven, induction hob, dishwasher and microwave, as well as a fridge freezer. There's a large central island with room for food prep at one end, and a breakfast bar with stools at the other.
Doors lead from here onto the covered terrace, where you can enjoy a barbecue or a drink while the sun sets.
There's a well-equipped ski room on the ground floor, with a central bench, plenty of storage for all of your outdoor clothing and a heated boot rack. And the sauna is right next door, so you'll be able to enjoy it straight off the pistes!
When there's plenty of snow, you can ski straight from Chalet Piccolo, and at other times, you just need to walk a few metres to the Chattrix chairlift. Outside the ski season, there are plenty of hiking and biking trails from the door.
Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce has a few restaurants and shops, including Le Galta – a delicatessen where you can pick up local charcuterie, wines and cheese. There are more shops and supermarkets in Saint-Gervais, which is just 6.5km away.

My wife discovered Saint-Nicolas-de-Veroce 20 years ago and introduced me to this little paradise when I was planning to build a chalet.
She and her family have always loved this place and, by building this chalet, we have been able to maintain this tradition. Now we and our children are all completely in love with this area.
The chalet's unique location means that guests of all ages can enjoy their independence, whether they are skiing, walking or cycling.
As for the view of Mont Blanc and the Aiguille du Midi, you just can't get enough of it.
We've furnished and decorated the chalet with all the care that we gave our own home. We hope you'll have a wonderful time here, as we have.
