Chalet Mussol...
You'll waste no time getting on the pistes when you stay at this beautiful, contemporary chalet for 14, which is situated on the slope just above the Chattrix chair lift in Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce.
And when you return to your chalet at the end of the day, you can sit on the sunny balcony and enjoy wonderful views of Mont Blanc and the Aiguille du Midi, or enjoy a film together in the TV room.
Just 6.5km from the Alpine resort of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce boasts its own ski area, historic churches and chapels, and several shops and restaurants, including the Michelin-recommended La Table d'Armante. The village is also home to Armancettle, one of the leading Hotels of the World, where you can enjoy a luxurious day spa experience.
It's also linked to the 445km pistes of the Évasion Mont-Blanc area, so there's always somewhere new to discover.
Outside the ski season, hikers and bikers can enjoy the many marked trails in the area, including the Mont Blanc massif and the renowned natural park of Contamines Montjoie. The tourist office at Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce has been awarded the Accueil Vélo label for its great cycling services, so riders of all levels will find plenty to challenge them.
About the property...
There's plenty of room for up to 14 guests to enjoy a fabulous mountain holiday at Chalet Mussol, which has six bedrooms and five bathrooms, with accommodation set over three floors. A renowned interior architect was brought in to design the chalet's rooms.
Enter on the ground floor via the ski room which includes a heated boot rack, and leave all of your outdoor gear before heading into the main hall, where you will find even more storage. There are three bedrooms on this floor, all of which have en-suite shower rooms. There are two double bedrooms, each with wonderful views of the Mont Blanc mountains, and a third bedroom which has two sets of bunk beds for up to four guests. There's also a TV/playroom on this floor, as well as a WC.
An impressive metal staircase leads up to the first floor, opening into the spacious open-plan living area. There's a huge modular sofa in front of the fire, where you can sit and take in the mountain views. Cosy window seats run along the wall on either side of the fireplace, and make a great place to sit with a book.
The well-equipped kitchen has an induction hob, an oven and a microwave as well as two dishwashers. The dining table is big enough for everyone to sit down and eat together – it's sure to be the scene of some lively meals! Doors from the dining area lead onto the balcony, where you can enjoy a coffee under the stars. The spacious laundry room on this floor has a large washing machine (16kg) and a dryer (18kg), and there's a separate WC.
Three more bedrooms can be found on the top floor. The master bedroom has its own shower room and separate WC, and shares a balcony with the other double room. The final room can be arranged with a kingsize bed or two singles. There's also a separate bathroom with a WC.
There is parking for several cars outside Chalet Mussol.
About the area...
Saint-Gervais, along with nearby Les Contamines, Combloux and Megève, are part of the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area. For even more choice, it's a 30-minute drive to the Espace Diamant, which comprises Praz-sur-Arly, Bellecombe, Crest-Voland, Flumet, and Les Saisies.
Experienced skiers looking for some stunning night skiing should head for the Vallée Blanche – do hire a guide for this 23km run which, with a 2,000m drop, will take you from the Aiguille du Midi to the Mer de Glace, an almost surreal experience under a full moon.
For a change from skiing, why not try dog-sledding or snow-shoe walking, which are both available within a short drive of Chalet Mussol. For a little more adventure, why not try ice climbing, via ferrata or paragliding.
When the snow melts, the mountains become the domain of walkers and cyclists. There's so much to see in this varied landscape – explore the Argentière glacier or perhaps the Baroque footpath, a 20km trail from Combloux to Les Contamines-Montjoie, which takes you past some of the area's finest baroque buildings. Look out for marmots along the way!
On a hot day, head for the swimming lake in Combloux or the Lac de Passy, where you can relax in the pure waters fed by mountain streams and surrounded by wild flowers and stunning views of Mont Blanc. Take a picnic and relax while the kids enjoy the great play area. There's also a treetop adventure course, pedalos and mini-golf as well as windsurfing, paddle boarding and fishing – it's a great family day out.
An excursion to Mont Blanc is not to be missed – the scenic Mont Blanc Tramway, a rack and pinion railway will take you to the foot of the Bionnassay Glacier at a height of 2,372m.

The OVO Network Review
Chalet Mussol is a three-storey property for 14, with six bedrooms and five bathrooms.
Situated right on the pistes overlooking the quiet village of Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce, it's a great choice for a group of family or friends who want quick access to great skiing and a quiet setting to return to at the end of the day. When the snow is good, you can ski right from the door, but even when it's not you only need to walk 150m down to the ski lift, which links to Megève and Saint-Gervais.
There are three bedrooms on the ground floor, all of which have en-suite shower rooms. Two are double rooms and the third has two sets of bunk beds.
There's also a spacious TV and playroom on this floor, where children can get together to play or watch a film. Three more bedrooms can be found on the top floor: a large double room with an en-suite shower room, a double room and a room which can be arranged with a kingsize or twin beds.
Two of the bedrooms open onto a balcony with the best views of the Mont-Blanc massif in the house!
The middle floor is given over to an impressive open-plan living room, with a fully-equipped kitchen, breakfast bar and a large dining table. There's a huge modular sofa where everyone can gather in front of the fire, and two built-in window seats where you can sit and read a book or just admire the view.
Doors open from here onto the balcony – outside space is fairly limited in Chalet Mussol, but with the pistes on your doorstep in the winter, and lush Alpine pasture in the summer, there are plenty of places to explore.
