About the area...
When you stay at Chalet Roche de Pierre, you'll find great skiing, hiking and biking in every direction. Situated in a secluded location outside the village of Saint-Jean-d'Aulps, it's just 1km from the Roc d'Enfer ski lift and a short distance from the larger Portes du Soleil resorts of Morzine (9km) and Montriond (7km), both of which can be reached by bus.
The Roc d'Enfer ski area has 50km of slopes, a ski school and an ice rink. Outside the ski season, you can enjoy activities such as go-karting and hire electric bikes or all-terrain vehicles, as well as wonderful biking and hiking trails. Morzine also offers indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks, which are often host to ice hockey matches, and the local cinema often shows films in English. The more adventurous might like to try snowmobiling or ice-climbing on some of the area's frozen waterfalls, or discover the area in a more sedate manner on a sleigh ride.
Morzine and neighbouring Les Gets have earned the "Famille Plus" status for their excellent childcare and entertainment, so this area is the perfect choice for young families. There are superb water parks in both resorts and in neighbouring Avoriaz, as well as two summer sledge runs, while the Indiana adventure park has a range of assault courses to suit all ages.

From the owner
Benjamin James & Jane
Hello, we’re Jane and Ben, along with our two children, Holly and Toby. Our love affair with the French Alps began over 20 years ago, when the thrilling downhill trails of Les Gets first drew us in.
Since then, we’ve traveled far and wide, but something about the Alps kept calling us back. There’s just something magical here, and after years of dreaming, we finally found the perfect place to call our own.
Our dream came true when we stumbled upon this chalet, perched high above the village of Saint-Jean-d’Aulps, offering what we believe are the most breathtaking views in the entire valley. It wasn’t just the scenery that captivated us – the tranquility, the authentic charm of the village, and the welcoming warmth of the local community made it feel like home.
In August 2024, we took the leap and secured our very own slice of Alpine paradise. Since then, we’ve poured our hearts into making this chalet a cozy, inviting retreat, thoughtfully modernizing it while preserving its charm.
It’s the perfect escape for those seeking serenity, just like we do whenever we’re here.
The village of Saint-Jean-d’Aulps is a hidden treasure – a place where time seems to slow down. While it’s close to lifts and amenities, it remains wonderfully peaceful, exuding an authenticity that’s hard to find elsewhere.
Winter here is simply magical.
Imagine waking up to the crisp Alpine air and spending your days exploring the Portes du Soleil, one of the world’s largest ski areas, with 12 resorts spread across France and Switzerland and over 600 kilometers of ski runs.
Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, the endless slopes are sure to thrill.
Just five minutes from the chalet, you can take on the Roc d’Enfer circuit – a serene, breathtaking route with 20 kilometers of pristine slopes and unforgettable views of Mont Blanc. On a powder day, there’s truly no better place to be and you can retreat to the warmth of the sauna and hot tub afterwards to ease those ski legs.
When the snow melts, summer reveals a different kind of beauty. The Portes du Soleil transform into a playground for adventurers, with 600 kilometers of mountain biking trails and scenic hiking routes that wind through lush valleys and across dramatic ridges.
Whether you’re biking, hiking, paragliding, or simply relaxing by Lac de Montriond, summer here is full of life.
We feel so lucky to have such an incredible year-round destination right on our doorstep.
We’ve named our chalet “Chalet Roche de Pierre,” inspired by the rugged beauty of Peters Stone, a rocky outcrop near our home in the Peak District. The connection between the views and tranquility of both our homes is undeniable, and we wanted to bring a little bit of that English charm to the French Alps.
Inside the chalet, you’ll find photographs that reflect this, including a stunning black-and-white image of Peters Stone, taken by a local artist, which hangs proudly in the living room.
For us, the chalet is more than just a home – it’s our sanctuary. Whether you’re here in the winter, carving through fresh snow and soaking in the mountain views, or in the summer, enjoying long, sun-drenched evenings on the balcony, this is a place to unwind, reconnect, and make memories that will last a lifetime. Come, make it part of your story.
We warmly invite you into our home to experience this magical place for yourselves, with your family and friends.
