Chalet Victorina...
This stunning chalet, near La Giettaz, enjoys a wonderfully secluded location surrounded by nature. In winter you'll need a 4x4 vehicle with snow tyres and snow chains, but it's absolutely worth the effort, and the owner has arranged for the snow to be cleared regularly.
Recently renovated to an ultra-modern and very high standard, this chalet has plenty of room for 12 people in six bedrooms. The main accommodation is over two floors, and there's a ski room on the lower ground floor.
The owners have chosen a very sleek minimalist design for Chalet Victorina, but the combination of brushed wood with slate greys has resulted in a very welcoming home that sits comfortably in its Alpine surroundings.
Chalet Victorina is just 1.5km from the ski lift at Le Plan, where you'll also find a restaurant in season. There are more restaurants, bars and shops at La Giettaz, which is a 5km drive away.
In the summer, a hiking trail passes below the chalet, and there are plenty of bike trails offering access to the challenging Aravis peaks.
NOTE: The property is in a protected environment and the running water is from a cistern with a filtering system. However, it is recommended that guests bring their own bottled water for personal consumption (no problem for showering/brushing teeth, or cooking).
About the property...
The stylish accommodation at Chalet Victorina is set over two floors, with the stunning open plan living accommodation on the first floor, to make the most of the breathtaking views of the ski slopes and the beautiful Aravis mountains.
The island kitchen has all you need to cook for a crowd and there's a dining table big enough for you all to enjoy a meal together. This area has sliding doors to the balcony, where you can admire the view as you enjoy your apero.
Three cosy sofas are arranged around the stone fireplace, and there's a cosy area underneath the eaves.
The six stylish bedrooms at Chalet Victorina can all be found on the ground floor - there are two double bedrooms linked by a shared shower room, two more en suite rooms (a double and a twin room) and a further double room and a twin room. There's also a shower room and separate toilet on this floor.
On the lower ground floor there's a useful ski room with a heated boot rack.
About the area...
Chalet Victorina is in an amazing location, with breathtaking views over the ski slopes and Aravis mountains.
Experienced skiers can ski straight from the chalet via La Tréfléannaise, a blue slope. Otherwise, it's just 1.5 km to the lifts at Le Plan. There's also a popular restaurant there, which is open all day in high season.
The link from Le Plan to the ski areas of Combloux and Megève means skiers have lots of choice - more than 100 km of pistes in the Portes du Mont Blanc area, and still more in the larger Evasion Mont Blanc area, which covers Megève, St-Gervais, Saint-Nicolas de Veroce and Les Contamine. If you're still looking for more, you're just a short drive from the La Clusaz ski area, which has more than 120 km of pistes, or l'Espace Diamant with more than 200 km.
If you fancy trying something a little bit different, there's even an opportunity to go dog-sledding in Le Plan!
There's just as much to do in the summer - hiking trails pass the chalet, or you could try climbing, mountain-biking, summer luge, picnics, or just enjoy the 360-degree views from the top of some of the ski lifts. The Col des Aravis, a familiar scene in the Tour de France, is nearby and walking and hiking trails pass right in front of the chalet.
Youngsters can put their bike skills to the test or learn new ones at a free bike park next to the bottom of the Torraz chairlift.
The medieval town of Annecy is just 45km away - close enough for a day trip. Explore the narrow streets and canalside restaurants or enjoy a day on one of the lakeside beaches.

Please Note
PLEASE NOTE: In winter a 4x4 vehicle with snow tyres and sometimes snow chains are essential to get to the chalet.
In addition to the necessity of having a 4x4, it is advisable to have snow chains in winter to navigate the rural road uphill.
There is a parking 300m away from the chalet accessible with a 4x4. The road to the parking and the parking itself are cleared by the commune. Please be aware that in periods of heavy snow you may have to access the remaining gravelled 300m path between the parking and the chalet on foot.
In summer the chalet is situated off a public footpath, and only accessible via a gravel track - vehicles with low axel clearance will not be able to use the track.
The property is in a protected environment and the running water is from a cistern with a filtering system. However, it is recommended that guests bring their own bottled water for personal consumption (no problem for showering/brushing teeth, or cooking).
Running water and sanitation
It should be noted that, as Chalet Victorina is an isolated mountain chalet, it is not connected to the municipal water supply and sewage system of the commune of La Giettaz.
An autonomous system of surface and underground water collection supplies the chalet with water, which can be very hard and is not recommended for drinking.
It is advisable to bring bottles of mineral water for the stay. The chalet has its own sewage system.

The OVO Network Review
Chalet Victorina is a six-bedroom, four bathroom chalet for 12, with 232m2 of accommodation over two floors. It's a 5km drive to La Giettaz, but just 1.5km to the lifts at Le Plan, where you'll find the closest restaurant.
The drive to Chalet Victorina is not an easy one, and in the winter you'll need a 4x4 vehicle, with snow tyres, maybe chains, and sometimes you may need to leave the car in a parking 300m away, but it's worth the effort - Chalet Victorina is surrounded by nature and this peaceful location enjoys wonderful views of the mountains and ski slopes - enjoy a drink or a meal on the terrace and enjoy the solitude, and the occasional wild animal visiting your garden!
The interior of this home will take your breath away - recently renovated, the sleek design is straight from the pages of a design magazine. But there's everything you need to ensure you have a great holiday - a fully-equipped kitchen, cosy seating area, stylish bedrooms and bathrooms, a TV and games corner and a useful ski room.
Keen skiers will love being able to ski straight from the chalet via a blue slope, and there are lifts at Le Plan, just 1.5km away.
There's plenty to do here in the summer too, with walking and biking trails passing the chalet, and climbing, summer luge and mountain-biking all nearby, Youngsters can put their bike skills to the test or learn new ones at a free bike park next to the bottom of the Torraz chairlift.
If you're looking for a stylish retreat where you can enjoy and active mountain holiday with friends and family, but without the noise and tumult of modern resorts, we think Chalet Victorina will be hard to beat.

From the owner
Jean-Luc
Le Plan at La Giettaz is just the sort of small family ski station we love. It's nestled at the foot of the Aravis chain, but is linked to the fabulous ski area of the Portes du Mont Blanc (Megeve and Combloux)
The pistes of La Clusaz are less than 20 minutes drive away.
And that's where, in the unspoiled Jaillet valley, you'll find Chalet Victorina. Although I have known the Aravis area and the lively station of La Clusaz for many years, I fell in love with this farmhouse which dates back to 1890 and its wonderful surroundings - our only neighbours are the spectacular Aravis mountains, the Jaillet forest, the mountain stream and the chamois and marmots.
The chalet, which used to belong to an old lady called Victorine, had, like many old farms, become derelict and was in danger of collapsing. Today it is a superb example of preservation and mountain heritage, following a superb renovation by local craftsmen.
All the main elements of woodwork and stone have been preserved and enhanced, and modern comfort combines with concern for the environment, such as the capture and filtering of water.
The chalet is right on the edge of the Jaillet ski slope, and in the summer, the hiking trails pass by the door. Just put on your backpack and head for the summit of Jaillet or Croisse Baulet! Summer or winter, I am sure that you will be just as enchanted by your stay at Chalet Victorina.
Valerie.
