Les Gets is a world-famous mountain bike destination in the French Alps known for famous events such as the Downhill World Cup and the Crankworx festival. After the winter season, this holiday resort swaps ski pistes for a vast selection of mountain bike trails to suit all levels. At the heart of the Portes du Soleil area, Les Gets has access to 12 resorts and over 600km of trails, serviced by 25 ski lifts open all summer long, so book your lift pass and start planning!

Plenty for the first time mountain biker

The whole Les Gets mountain biking area has been planned so you can enjoy riding at any level, and there are plenty of options for first time riders to get to grips with the basics.

For your first couple of days, stick to the clearly-marked green runs and then work your way up to the gentler of the blues if you are feeling confident.

A great way to make the most of a day out on the hill is to book an instructor. A few pointers can make all the difference and have you enjoying yourself far more quickly, because what are holidays for if not to have fun? And this beautiful area in the heart of the exceptional scenery of the French Alps makes learning all the more enjoyable.

Once you start to grow in confidence your options for biking in the Alps open right up. It is possible to quite quickly get to a point where you can explore the mountain biking in Morzine the neighbouring resort, and then even venture beyond and into Switzerland!

Family-friendly routes

As a very family-friendly resort, Les Gets has taken care to ensure that mountain biking is accessible to riders of all ages. Families have been kept firmly in mind when planning the Les Gets bike park, with the Kids Zone, the Mini-Park and family cross-country circuits to make sure you can all enjoy MTB outings together.

The Kidz Zone is found in Les Gets village and is the perfect place for young kids to get a taste for park riding. You’ll love seeing them whizzing over bumps and around bends!

With young kids, the Tour des Aventuriers is a fabulous short loop passing by the Lac des Ecoles and Aventure Parc. Being only 1.1km and involving minimal climbing, it’s a great route for complete beginners too.

The Tour de Golf and Tour des Alpages are also both perfect for families. Starting from the top of the Chavannes and Chéry lifts respectively, the whole gang will love these gentle descents back to the village!

Kids and adults looking to have their first taste of downhill mountain biking should head to the green graded Piste des Ecureuils and Piste des Biquettes. These beginner downhill tracks are fun, flowing routes and are the perfect way to experience descent biking for the first time.

There are plenty of bike hire shops in town to get your hands on the right bike for the terrain, as well as offering maintenance services if you have brought your own.

A mountain biking Mecca

The world class Les Gets mountain bike park is regarded as one of the best in Europe. For the advanced rider, the options are endless. The famous World Cup downhill tracks are open to the public throughout the summer, as well as jump parks, North Shore and much more for you dig your teeth into.

For those who don’t mind a bit of pedalling, there is a huge network of cross-country and enduro trails covering the whole of the Portes du Soleil.

The summer kicks off with the Passportes du Soleil event — an 80km non-competitive enduro race taking in all nine resorts of the Portes du Soleil and a whopping 6km of descent. Fortunately, 15 ski lifts adapted for bikes handle most of the uphill so you don’t have to! This fantastic event is a great way to see the whole of the Portes du Soleil in one day.

Bring your own bikes or arrange bike hire locally - there's sure to be something to suit you, whether you're looking for family mountain biking or even electric mountain biking.

Regardless of the discipline of riding you prefer, Les Gets and the Portes du Soleil remain on for the bucket list of any serious mountain biker.

The winter months

Les Gets and the Portes du Soleil as well known for the winter months as they are in the summer. Ski and snowboard facing Mont Blanc, explore the magical tree runs and discover the beauty of the Alps in winter. Les Get offers ski stays suited to all the family and as it links to 11 other resorts, the available ski area is enormous. With 286 pistes of all levels to explore even the most avid skier will be spoilt for choice.
