Chalet Happysnow...
With an indoor pool and spa area (sauna and hammam), a cinema room and stunning views of the mountains, this superb semi-detached chalet for 18 guests is a great choice for a group of family or friends looking for a luxury base close to great skiing and mountain sports.
The property is just a 500m walk from the village of Chinaillon, so it's just a short stroll to fetch fresh bread from the boulangerie in the morning, or for a tasty local meal in the evening. And with the shuttle bus stopping just 100m from your door, you won't have to rely on your car to get around the Aravis ski resorts, which also include La Clusaz and La Croix Fry in Manigod.
The resort of Le Grand-Bornand/Chinaillon has a Famille Plus label, which means there is always something going on to keep the kids busy.
Chalet Happysnow shares a building with two smaller apartments, both of which are privately owned.
About the property...
Chalet Happysnow is a spacious, three-storey semi-detached chalet for up to 18 guests, with six en-suite bedrooms, two of which are family suites.
The ground floor is devoted to an impressive leisure area, with an indoor pool, a beach area with sofas, loungers and a shower, a steam room and sauna. There's also a comfortable cinema room which can also be turned into a work space and meeting room for guests who want to work remotely. There are two WCs on this floor, one of which has a shower room, and a well-equipped ski room with a heated boot rack.
All six of the bedrooms are on the first floor. Four of them are double rooms with en-suite shower rooms – one has access to a balcony and another has a private terrace. The larger of the two family suites sleeps up to six, with a double bed and two sets of bunk beds, and a bathroom with a bath, separate shower and two washbasins. The other family suite has a double bed and a set of bunk beds, and an en-suite shower room. There are two separate WCs on this floor. All of the bedrooms are beautifully decorated in neutral tones, have quality bedlinen, plenty of storage and TVs.
The communal living area is on the second floor, to make the most of the stunning mountain views. There's a fully-equipped kitchen with an island unit and everything you need to cook for a large group. Enjoy your meal together at the large dining table or on the covered terrace, where there's a plancha grill and fabulous views of the mountains. There's another table in the landscaped garden.
After dinner, get together on the huge sofa in front of the television, or head downstairs to watch a movie in the cinema room – you will find a small kitchenette there, where you can make drinks or snacks.
The top floor also has a utility room with a washing machine, and a WC with washbasin.
There are parking spaces for up to six cars outside the chalet.
About the area...
It’s just 1km from Chalet Happysnow to the ski lift, but if you’d rather save your energy for the slopes, the ski bus stops 100m away every 15 minutes.
Your Aravis ski pass gives you access to pistes in La Clusaz, Le Grand-Bornand, Chinaillon and Manigod – more than 200km of perfect pistes. Families will also appreciate the great sledge run nearby. The cross-country ski piste is easily accessible and beginners in this sport will love the Evo Nordic Park, which has a circuit featuring a variety of terrains. There's also a superb Snowpark for boarders.
Non-skiers can go ice-skating in Le Grand-Bornand, or try snowshoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
At the end of a busy day, head back to Chalet Happysnow where you can relax in the indoor pool, sauna or steamroom in your own private spa!
In the summer, a network of walking and biking trails cover the mountains around Chalet Happysnow, and you can pick up a route map for either at the tourist office in Chinaillon. Keep an eye open for mountain goats and marmots!
If you’re looking for something a little more challenging, there’s a climbing school, via ferrata routes, a tree-top adventure park, canyoning, white-water rafting and paragliding all nearby.
The medieval town of Annecy is a must for a day out, whatever the season. It offers a unique mix of shops, restaurants, galleries and museums, and Lake Annecy, said to be the cleanest lake in Europe, is a great place for watersports, swimming, cycling or just relaxing on the beach.
August sees the International Children’s Festival in Le Grand-Bornand – a week of puppet shows, circus acts and workshops, with a grand firework finale. You’re in the heart of Reblochon country, so on your travels don’t forget to pick up some of this delicious cheese from a local farm or market!
