Winter sports enthusiasts staying at Chalet Grenier à Neige can explore the slopes of La Giettaz or travel a little further afield to either Megeve (15km) or La Clusaz (16.5), giving you a huge ski area to discover.

During the rest of the year there's just as much to do, with 60km of trails for mountain bikers and 140km of marked footpaths.

About the property ...

This traditional wood and stone Alpine barn has been completely renovated to create a five-star luxury holiday home for up to 12 guests. There are five bedrooms, each with their own private bathroom.

The accommodation is set over three floors. You'll enter on the ground floor, where you'll find a fabulous wellness area with an indoor jacuzzi for 8, a sauna and a shower. Plans are underway to add a home cinema too - please check before you book whether this will be available for your stay. There's also the ski room, with plenty of storage as well as boot and glove heaters, so you'll always be warm and dry when you hit the slopes.

There are four bedrooms on the 1st floor. Bedroom 2 is a double room where you can relax and watch TV in the free-standing bath. There's also a washbasin and a separate WC. Bedroom three is another double with an en suite shower room and WC, while bedroom 4 is a bunk room for four guests, with a separate shower room. Bedroom 5, another double room, has an en suite shower room with a chromotherapy rain shower, a washbasin and WC. Bedroom 1, on the second floor, is a large double with a free-standing bath, a separate shower, a washbasin and a separate Japanese WC. There's also a TV in the bathroom.

The rest of the second floor is dedicated to the impressive living area. With two huge sofas, beanbags and upholstered stools, there is plenty of room for all the guests to get together in the evenings around the television or perhaps for a musical evening at the digital piano. A suspended fireplace separates the seating area from the dining area, where the table comfortably sits up to 12 guests. Huge windows frame the fabulous view of the mountains, and sliding doors open on to the spacious balcony - the perfect place to relax with an apero or perhaps coffee after dinner.

The stunning kitchen is a pleasure to cook in. Whether you're rustling up a snack or creating a feast, you'll appreciate the oven and microwave, the induction hob, the large fridge and the separate freezer, the wine store and the bean to cup coffee machine. There's also a large island unit with a breakfast bar. The Miele washing machine and tumble dryer can be found in the separate laundry room.

The final room in the chalet is the mezzanine playroom - a great space where children can go to play a game together or enjoy a story before bedtime.

About the area ...

La Giettaz is a peaceful, family-friendly resort between Megeve and La Clusaz, making it perfectly placed to enjoy the Espace Diamant, Les Portes du Mont Blanc and the Aravis ski areas. Those closer to Mont Blanc enjoy a great snow record from mid December to the end of April.

At the end of March, families can make the most of the Aravis Snow Trail - an annual event run on groomed snow. Races are run at different levels to suit all ages and abilities, and there's even a treasure hunt along the way!

Outside the ski season, there are plenty of biking and hiking trails to discover. In June, road cyclists can take part in the five-day Aravis Bike Tour, with routes varying from 60 to 150km. The event starts at the Col des Aravis in La Giettaz. Mountain bikers might prefer to try their skills at the free mountain bike park at the bottom of the Tete du Torraz chairlift.

There are plenty of other ways to enjoy yourself in La Giettaz - try paragliding, ice-skating, horse-riding, hot air ballooning and many more. If you'd like to explore a little further afield, you'll be spoiled for choice. Enjoy a day out in the medieval city of Annecy (44km), where you can stroll along the canals, explore the markets or enjoy a cruise on the beautiful Lake Annecy. If you visit La Clusaz (14km) on a Monday, you'll be able to pick up fresh produce or a handmade souvenir at the weekly market.

Families with young children can enjoy a day trekking with donkeys - meet your donkeys at the Col des Aravis and load them up with your picnic and drinks before a gentle trek through mountain pastures.
