La Chapelle d'Abondance has a good selection of shops and restaurants, and there are more to choose from in the larger resort of Châtel (7km), which also has a large Intermarché supermarket and a cinema which shows films in English on certain nights.

And after a busy day in the mountains, you'll be pleased to return to Chalet Les Vardafes, where you can relax in the hot tub, soak up the evening sun in the garden or enjoy the breathtaking views from the terrace and balconies.

About the property ...

Chalet Les Vardafes has plenty of room for eight guests, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The accommodation is set over three floors, including a basement with a garage and ski room. The chalet also has a large garden with a hot tub, which is screened for your privacy.

The bright and spacious living area is on the first floor. The entrance hall, which has cupboard space for your outdoor clothes, leads to the open-plan living room - there's a modern fitted kitchen with a large fridge-freezer and everything you need to cook up a tasty meal, and a large dining table where you can sit down and eat together. Two large sofas are arranged around the television and doors open on to a spacious balcony, where you can admire the stunning view over an apero. In good weather, it's the perfect place to enjoy a barbecue.

This floor also has a laundry room with a washing machine and a dryer, and a separate WC.

The first of the bedrooms is on this floor too - it's a large double room with a dressing area and an en suite shower room with a shower and WC. This bedroom also opens on to the terrace - what better way to start your day than with coffee and some fresh Alpine air!

There are three more bedrooms on the top floor. A large double room with its own shower area opens on to a furnished balcony, which it shares with another double bedroom. The third room, which has two single beds, is ideal for children. There's a large bathroom on this floor and a separate WC.

There is parking outside the chalet, as well as a space for one car in the garage.

About the area ...

La Chapelle d'Abondance is one of the 12 resorts of the vast Portes du Soleil ski area, so when you stay in the winter, you'll have access to more than 650km of pistes and almost 200 ski lifts in France and Switzerland, all covered by the Portes du Soleil ski pass.

La Chapelle d'Abondance also has Nordic and cross-country skiing areas and there's night skiing once a week on the Linga red piste in Châtel.

In the summer this beautiful area is a paradise for walkers, cyclists and those who enjoy the great outdoors. Whether you're looking for a quiet walk and a picnic around the Lac de Vonnes, or you'd rather be flying down the valley on the Fantasticable zipwire, there's sure to be something to keep you entertained!

There’s so much to discover on two wheels in and around Chapelle d’Abondance. MTB riders will need good skills for the Mont de Grange loop (13.1km), or the longer River gap-Châtel bike Park loop (49.4km). Road cyclists can enjoy wonderful views of Lake Montriond from the summit when they take the Col de Bassachaux climb (17km), or the Col du Corbier - Abondance loop (54km), with wonderful views of Mont Billiat.

The nearby bike park has 20 downhill trails to suit all levels, as well as a kids' zone and a slopestyle zone. The tourist office will be happy to give you more information.

If you'd like to explore further afield, it's just a 30km drive to Lake Geneva and the elegant spa town of Evian Les Bains. Stroll along the waterside promenades, explore the narrow pedestrian streets and summer market or take a boat trip across the lake to Switzerland!
