Chalet Grand Soir

There are incredible hiking and biking trails in and around Combloux, from challenging mountain trails to family-friendly walks taking in lakes, waterfalls and great views.

Of course there are plenty of other activities in the area – tennis, horse-riding, potholing, paragliding and via ferrata are as well as a manmade lake where you can swim, paddle or enjoy a picnic.

Combloux, nicknamed the pearl of Mont Blanc, has a small supermarket, butcher, baker, pharmacy, bars and restaurants, and there are more facilities in nearby Sallanches, Megève and Saint-Gervais. A lot of the surrounding villages have good markets, where you can buy fresh produce and local specialities.

About the property...

This contemporary three-storey chalet sleeps up to 12 guests (10 adults) in six bedrooms, each with their own bath or shower room.

Starting on the ground floor, you'll enter via a hallway with plenty of storage for your outdoor gear and the garage, which is equipped with ski racks and a heated boot warmer, as well as a charger point for electric cars. There's also a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer, and a bunk room for two, with an en-suite shower room.

Take the stairs up to the first floor, where you'll find the airy, Scandi-style living area, which is flooded with light thanks to large windows, which also lets in the stunning Alpine views. Two sofas and chairs are arranged around a suspended fireplace and a television, where you can get together to watch a film or chat about your day. The well-equipped corner kitchen has everything you need to cook for a large group, and there's a breakfast bar where guests can sit and keep the chef company. The large dining table has room for everyone to enjoy a meal together.

In good weather, you may prefer to congregate on the wide, wraparound terrace, which has another dining table for 12, a large, sheltered seating area and of course, the Nordic-style hot tub, where you can relax and enjoy the wonderful mountain views. A petanque area (3m x 7m) with its own set of balls is waiting for you to enjoy your evenings in Combloux.

There's a double room on this floor, with an en-suite shower room and WC. You'll find four more bedrooms on the top floor, all of which have doors to a balcony. There's a spacious master suite with a bathroom and dressing area and three double rooms, each with a shower room and WC. One of these rooms has twin beds which can be joined together to make a kingsize bed. The bedrooms all open off a spacious landing, which has a desk for anyone wanting to work remotely.

About the area...

Just a 15-minute walk from the centre of Combloux, Chalet Grand Soir is in a great location for guests who want to explore the wonderful Mont Blanc area without having to rely on their car.

Along with Megève, Saint-Gervais and Les Contamines, Combloux is part of the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area, which has 400km of pistes. If that's not enough, you can explore another 192km of pistes in the Espace Diamant, just a 20-minute drive away. This domaine takes in the resorts of Praz-sur-Arly, Bellecombe, Crest-Volant, Flumet, and Saisies.

Experienced skiers looking for some stunning night skiing should head for the Vallée Blanche – do hire a guide for this 23km run which, with a 2,000m drop, will take you from the Aiguille du Midi to the Mer de Glace, an almost surreal experience under a full moon.

For a change from skiing, why not try dog-sledding or snow-shoe walking, which are both available within a short drive of Le Primpiolet. For a little more adventure, why not try ice-climbing, via ferrata or paragliding!

When the snow melts, the mountains become the domain of walkers and cyclists. There's so much to see in this varied landscape – explore the Argentière glacier or perhaps the Baroque footpath, a 20km trail from Combloux to Les Contamines-Montjoie which takes you past some of the area's finest baroque buildings. Look out for marmots along the way!

Fancy a swim? The man-made ecological lake at Combloux (open June to September) is just a five-minute drive from Chalet Grand Soir. Relax in the pure waters fed by mountain streams or enjoy a picnic surrounded by wildflowers and stunning views of Mont Blanc. Children will love the great play area, and there's also a sauna and a hammam, as well as a restaurant.

Golfers can take advantage of the great courses at Chamonix and Megève, and the Mont d’Arbois course is only 8.5km away..
