A hot tub, sauna, home cinema and children's playhouse are just some of the features of this beautifully restored farmhouse for up to 13 guests.
Set in a residential area on the edge of the beautiful village of Châtel, the chalet is just a short walk from the village and the lifts.
After a busy day skiing or walking in the mountains, you'll look forward to taking in the views from the hot tub, relaxing in the sauna, or getting together to watch a film in the home cinema.
Châtel is part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, which covers 12 resorts in France and Switzerland, so you'll never be short of somewhere new to discover.
About the property
La Grange au Merle is a four-storey chalet for up to 13 guests (10 adults), with six bedrooms and five bath/shower rooms.
On the first floor, the bright living area takes up the front of the chalet, and opens on to a sunny balcony - help yourself to a drink from the cocktail bar, step out and take in the incredible views of the village, the pistes and the mountains beyond. The air is intoxicating! The rustic-styled kitchen has everything you need to cook for a hungry crowd, and there's plenty of room to sit down together at the dining table. There's also a charming "chef's table" in the kitchen, which is perfect for serving up tea for the children.
After dinner, gather around the log fire to plan your next mountain adventure, or relax in the movie room - there's Apple TV and games to keep you busy. A Sonos sound system throughout the chalet means you can choose your own music from your phone. The sauna is on this floor too - there's enough room for six to relax and unwind after an exhilarating day on the pistes.
Five of the six bedrooms are on the ground floor. Three of them have en suite shower/bath rooms, large double beds, and a direct access to the balcony or the terrace. The fourth room has a kingsize bed and access to the balcony, and shares a bathroom with the fifth room, which has a single bed and a set of bunk beds. The final bedroom is on the mezzanine floor - this spacious room has a queensize bed and an en suite bathroom with a separate shower. All the double beds can be arranged as twin beds, according to your needs. The mezzanine also includes a desk with a printer and good access to the property's WiFi, for those among you who wish to work during their stay.
The chalet is a great place for children, with an enclosed garden on one side and their own garden chalet, where they can play safely. While you enjoy the sunset from the hot tub, they can burn off some energy with a snowball fight or a treasure hunt.
About the area ...
La Grange au Merle is in a quiet location just a 15-minute walk from the centre of Châtel, a popular mountain resort in the Portes du Soleil ski domain. The Super-Châtel / Barbossine and Linga / Pre la Joux / Plaine Dranse sectors that surround the village have 41 ski lifts and 45 slopes, providing plenty of scope for all ages and abilities.
Châtel is still a traditional farming village, retaining its Savoyard architecture and character. But the growth in ski tourism means it now boasts some wonderful restaurants, both on and off the slopes. There's also a great aquatic centre with spa facilities, as well as indoor and outdoor pools, and a popular indoor play centre for younger children.
In the summer, there is a huge choice of trails for hikers and bikers, and those with a taste for adventure can try the Fantasticable - a zipwire which will have you hurtling between the mountains at up to 100kph.
There are plenty of places to explore around Châtel too - the picturesque medieval village of Yvoire, on the banks of Lake Geneva, is just an hour away and the beautiful Château de Chillon, near Montreux, is even closer.
Châtel is easily accessible from Geneva airport, either by car (about 90 minutes), train or bus. Or you could arrive in style by booking a helicopter transfer!

La Grange au Merle is a four-storey, six-bedroom chalet for 13 guests. And with five bathrooms, an outdoor hot tub with wonderful mountain views, a sauna and a cinema room, it has everything you need for a wonderful holiday with family and friends.
If you are travelling with children, there's an added bonus that will delight them - their own "mini chalet" in the garden where they can play to their hearts' content!
This former farmhouse has been very carefully renovated and furnished in a traditional Alpine style, but it also boasts all the contemporary comforts you look for on a holiday - a well-equipped, open-plan kitchen, a home cinema room with Netflix and Apple TV, a Sonos sound system and a desk if you want to work during your holidays.
The open-plan living area has a large dining table where everyone can eat together, and a cosy seating area around a fire.
The terraced garden has several seating areas and terraces where you can enjoy the wonderful village and mountain views while the children have fun in the delightful playhouse.
There are five double bedrooms, which can also all be arranged as twin beds. The sixth bedroom is designed for three children, with a bunk bed and a single bed.
There are five en-suite bathrooms, all of which have showers and three of which have baths too.
You will find a covered parking space for one car, as well as further parking for up to four cars. The chalet is located a 15-minute walk from the ski lifts and the centre of Châtel, where you'll find a good selection of shops and restaurants.
With so many unique features and a wonderful Alpine ambience, La Grange au Merle is a very special place for a holiday with family and friends.

We renovated La Grange au Merle to create a luxurious chalet while maintaining the lovely traditional styling of this old alpine farmhouse.
A generous open plan living area with individually-styled bedrooms on floors above and below, the chalet is equally well-suited for a single family or larger groups.
The south-facing hillside aspect provides sunshine throughout the day. Terraces on the bedroom and living room levels make for ideal sitting areas, with huge windows bringing fabulous views of the mountain peaks into the living and dining areas as well.
Patios in the gardens on either side are perfect for tranquil open-air dining, morning and evening.
With just a fairly level 10-15 minute walk to the village centre, the chalet provides easy access by car or on foot to the restaurants and village shops.
We have enjoyed many family holidays exploring the mountains, as well as the nearby towns and villages of France and Switzerland, and hope that our guests do so too.
