Chalet Argali
Perched at 1380 m between the famous Colombière pass and the charming village of Chinaillon (a 4 minute drive!), near Le Grand-Bornand, this 5-star property guarantees you an unforgettable stay in the mountains, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. In winter, snowshoeing is available right from the door, and the most experienced skiers can even start their day on skis (depending on snow conditions). Novice skiers can reach the nearby ski lifts and ski school, just 1 km away. When winter is gone, you'll love the pétanque court, the three sunny terraces with breathtaking views, and the fantastic, fully-equipped summer kitchen (crockery, fridge, plancha, dishwasher) for preparing tasty al-fresco meals.
The chalet is not overlooked. Whatever the season, the jacuzzi and sauna are ideal for relaxing after a busy day in the mountains. The jacuzzi offers breathtaking views of Roc des Tours, Jalouvre and Pointe Blanche, while the sauna faces Maroly.
Chalet Argali is very spacious and will suit a large group, whether it's a family or a group of friends or colleagues. Spread over three floors, it has several separate lounges and a large dining room where you can enjoy meals together.
The owners live in the property behind Chalet Argali. Familiar with the world of hospitality for many years, they will welcome you on arrival and can answer any questions you may have during your stay.
About the property
The accommodation at Chalet Argali is set over three floors, with the main living area on the top floor to make the most of the stunning views.
There is a bright seating area, with sofas arranged to look out onto the balcony. Summer or winter, it's a great place to enjoy an apero, watch the sunset or simply catch up on the day. There's another seating area with a television, as well as table football. Three of the six bedrooms are on this floor: a double with an extra single bed and an en suite shower room and another room which can be arranged with a kingsize or twin beds. The third room has an extra single bed and a mezzanine room with twin beds for children - the ceiling is very low here. There's also a separate shower room and a toilet.
There's another cosy seating area downstairs, along with a huge dining table where everyone can eat together, and an open plan kitchen which makes cooking a pleasure. There's access to another balcony here too - wrap up warm and take your coffee out here on a clear night. You'll find a double bedroom here with an en suite shower, as well as a useful laundry room with storage and a heated boot rack.
The final bedroom is on the lower ground floor - it's a double room with an en suite shower room, a television and direct access to the terrace. The ski room on this floor can be accessed from the terrace or from inside the chalet.
About the area
Experienced skiers won’t waste a minute getting to the slope at Chalet Argali, as it passes right by the door. Those with less confidence can head to the ski lift just 1km down the hill. From Chinaillon you can ski the whole of the Massif Aravis - 220km of pistes - on one ski pass.
The resorts of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand are linked by ski bus, so you’ll never be stuck for a lift home. There are plenty of cross-country ski trails in the Bouchet valley, as well as several routes from Chinaillon village. Beginners in this sport will love the Evo Nordic Park, which has a circuit featuring a variety of terrains, while boarders will appreciate the Snowpark.
In the winter, the road to the chalet is closed after the next bend, providing a great area for ski touring and snowshoe walking, and the chalet's altitude (1380) means you'll always get the best of the snow.
Non-skiers can go ice-skating or swimming in La Clusaz, where the heated indoor and outdoor pools are open all year round, or try snowshoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
But the mountains aren't just for winter - there's plenty to do and discover in the summer too. A network of walking and biking trails cover the mountains, and you can pick up a route map for either at the tourist office. There’s a fantastic swimming pool complex in Le Grand Bornand, with a restaurant and grassy areas for picnics.
If you’re looking for something a little more challenging, there’s a climbing school, via ferrata routes, a tree-top adventure park, canyoning, white-water rafting and paragliding all nearby.
Le Grand Bornand has Famille Plus status, and prides itself on a great programme of activities for young families. August sees the International Children’s Festival in the village - a week of puppet shows, circus acts and workshops, with a grand firework finale.

The OVO Network Review
This wonderful chalet on the edge of the ski village of Chinaillon sleeps 14 people in six bedrooms. It's in a great location on the edge of the piste, which means skiers with some experience can ski straight down to the village lifts.
However, beginners should make their way to the lifts which are just 1km away.
The chalet has six bedrooms, five of which have en suite shower rooms, and two have extra beds ideal for children. There is also a separate shower room for the sixth bedroom.
However there is no bath in the chalet, which may not suit families with very young children.
There's plenty of space at Chalet Argali, even at full capacity, with three separate seating areas. There's no fireplace, but the cosy atmosphere at the chalet means you won't miss it.
The sunny balconies and terrace are wonderful places to relax, both in winter and in summer, with wonderful views of the mountains, and with plans for a hot tub and petanque piste, you're sure to spend a lot of time out there. In the summer, you don't even need to go inside to cook, with a kitchen and barbecue on the terrace.
The owners live in the property directly behind Chalet Argali and will be there to welcome you when you arrive, and can help you with any questions throughout your stay. They also rent out an apartment in their chalet, but your privacy is assured.

From the owner
Marie-Laure
The year - 1752, the place - La Lavanche, Le Grand-Bornand.
A farming family builds a chalet out in the country, in the pastures near the Col de la Colombière, at an altitude of almost 1400m. On one side, it overlooks the Pointe-Percée, on the other is the village of Chinaillon and the Pointe du Jalouvre.
Just below them is the babbling Bout stream.
We are originally from Le Grand Bornand, and decided to take on the renovation of this ancient chalet with our children, Anaïs and Marion. The wonderful living areas combine charm, comfort and the original features created by skilled craftsmen.
We've brought it right up to date, but preserved the old wood. The theme of the renovation was to create a contemporary feel without changing the chalet's character, re-using old wood and heating it with geothermal energy to limit its environmental impact.
The setting is quiet and surrounded by nature, with few neighbours. The Maroly valley is noted for its snow in the winter.
Experienced skiers are just a couple of steps from the pistes - you can ski from and back to the chalet.
Your children will love playing in the snow around the house.
In summer, there are lots of walks or bike trails from the house, and the outside spaces have been designed to make the most of the surrounding nature.
Welcome to Chalet Argali…

“A very nice place”
A very nice place to have a great summer holiday in the mountains.
“Quality chalet for relaxing stay”
A very nice week in a high-quality chalet, with appreciated amenities. Comfortable inside, the outdoor space allows for both isolation and enjoying the sun and shade, as well as the petanque court, jacuzzi, terraces... Beautiful walks possible from the chalet, no need to take a car, warm owners who know and love their mountain... We will come back with pleasure!!
“Stunning chalet with amazing views”
Beautiful chalet, renovated, nicely decorated and very well equipped. Located on the heights of Chinaillon (15 min walk) in the greenery with an incredible 360° view of the mountains, you immediately feel at home. Hiking trails are nearby, shops are a 15-minute walk away. The owners are very helpful and lovely. We had an ideal family stay that was both sporty and relaxing.
