Thônes is an alpine commune located in the Aravis ski region, close to La Clusaz, Manigod, Le Grand Bornnad and Lake Annecy. Home to the famous Reblochon cheese, local produce and gastronomy are at the heart of this charming town.
So, it’s no surprise that their local market is high on our recommended things to do in Thônes. Read on to discover more about Thônes Market and our favourite stalls to visit…
When and where does Thônes Market take place?
The Thônes market takes place every Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm and is located right in the centre of Thônes. The market is popular with local people all year round.
What can you buy?
Farmers and traders from the valley and further afield offer a great choice of produce: cheese, charcuterie, fruit and vegetables, honey, jams and also homeware, clothes and accessories. A colourful scene, the market at Thônes is known as much for its variety and quality of produce as for its great atmosphere.
Our favourite stalls…
Charcuterie from Pousse-Midi de Jérémie
A great range of hams and sausage: “grelots” with nuts or plain, dry sausage, fagotins … discover Jérémie’s own specialties – he also has a shop in La Clusaz, where he sells cheese (he can prepare a raclette or fondue for you, with aperitif platters), wines and spirits.
Cheese from Les Caves du Val de Thônes
Séverine and Björn offer a selection of excellent local cheeses such as Reblochon, Tomme or raclette, as well as goat or sheep feta, Brie, Mont d’Or, a creamy truffled Brillat-Savarin … and many others!

Goats cheese from La Chèvrerie de la Closette
If you like goat’s cheese, this is a must! Stéphane has so many to choose from: fresh, dry, logs, pyramids coated in ash, filled with blueberries, bite-sized canapes, and flavoured cheeses such as wild garlic, mountain herbs, mint, marjoram, mushroom, fennel, honey, nuts … it’s impossible to mention them all!
You can buy his cheese on the market in Thônes but also from the farm nearby, 1200m up opposite Tournette.
Fruit and vegetables
La Ronde du Bio and Le Jardin des Solstices are our top recommended stalls for fruit and vegetables at Thônes market.
Honey
La Miellerie
Among the Saturday morning stalls, you’ll find La Miellerie outside the library…
L’Ours Gourmand
You can also find L’Ours Gourmand at the back of the church…
Where can you stop for a drink afterwards?
One of the things locals love to do is have a drink with friends and family after visiting the market in Thônes – it’s a great way to start the weekend!
Here are a few places where you will find a warm welcome and a friendly atmosphere:
- L’Aravis Café: a pretty terrace, friendly welcome and a great atmosphere. Enjoy a drink or lunch after the market.
- L’Imprévu: locals love this place for its amazing waffles, but it’s also a bar run by a lovely couple.
- L’Instant T: located a couple of doors down from L’Imprévu. It’s a coffee shop / salon de thé with a nice terrace in the summer and great ice creams.
- Le Central: in the heart of the market. There’s a great terrace where you can soak up the sun or watch the passers-by. They also serve a hearty lunch.
