Top 5 reasons to ski in the Alps this March

March traditionally heralds the end of the high season in the mountains. The slopes and resorts in the Alps are much quieter, but that doesn’t mean they close!

With rising temperatures and falling prices, here are just some of the advantages that make March one of the best months to take a skiing holiday in the Alps.

1. Take advantage of quieter slopes in March

As soon as the February school holidays are over, the mountains become less crowded, offering a more relaxing experience. The slopes are less busy and there are fewer queues in the hire shops, ticket offices and at the lifts.

Fewer crowds mean beginners can get started and gain confidence on their skis. And the ski schools have more availability for lessons.

The lower numbers also make a difference in the bars and restaurants, which will be able to welcome you more easily, both on the slopes and in the resort.

2. Enjoy lower prices for your holiday in the Alps

Travelling to the Alps outside peak season guarantees better prices on transport, accommodation, ski passes and equipment hire.

Equipment

Companies specialising in ski equipment hire, both online and in-store, lower their prices at the end of the February holidays, to make the most of the last few weeks of the ski season.

As well as lower prices, you’ll also have much more choice than you would during the high season.

Lift passes

For the same reasons, most ski areas are offering special rates from the end of March

For example, Évasion Mont-Blanc is reducing its prices by 20% from 22 March this year, while Portes du Soleil ski passes are being cut by around 15% from 29 March.

Accommodation

Hoteliers and holiday rental owners are also keeping up with demand, and will be lowering their prices once the February holidays are over.

In terms of accommodation, you’ll benefit from a much better choice if you take your holiday in the Alps in March.

3. Enjoy the milder temperatures in spring

With the arrival of spring, you can look forward to sunnier days and milder temperatures. And it’s much nicer to ski without the heavy jumpers!

And the longer days mean you’ll be able to spend more time on the slopes.

The atmosphere in the resorts is also more relaxed, and you can enjoy sitting on the sunny terraces of the bars and restaurants.

4. Après-ski is just as much fun!

The resorts of the Alps are notoriously lively throughout the ski season, with their many establishments offering music and entertainment for all types of visitors.

With warmer temperatures and longer days, spring is the perfect time to make the most of après-ski in your favourite resort. You can dance in the open air or sip a drink in the sunshine after a good day’s skiing.

Beyond skiing and snowboarding, spring opens up a whole range of additional activities that aren’t always available in winter, or that are much more enjoyable in warmer weather.
