2. The weather is milder
Another good reason to go to the mountains in autumn is the weather. Admittedly, it won’t be as hot as on Mediterranean beaches, but temperatures are still mild and pleasant at this time of year. Although the mornings and evenings are cool, the days can be mild and sunny. So you can enjoy a fairly pleasant climate without having to deal with the extremes of summer or winter. Short-sleeved T-shirts are the way to go!
3. The hiking trails are less crowded
The resorts in the Alps are very popular in the high season. Holidaymakers looking for tranquillity and wide open spaces will appreciate an Alpine holiday more in autumn, when the crowds of holidaymakers gradually dissipate. The resorts are much less busy and the hiking trails much less crowded, offering a more peaceful and intimate experience in the heart of nature. It’s a chance to find yourself completely alone on even the more popular trails.
4. The ideal time for keen photographers
Autumn landscapes in the mountains make for some wonderful pictures. Brightly-coloured autumn scenery, atmospheric sunsets, snow-capped peaks, mountain animals gathering their food for winter… It’s the perfect opportunity for photographers to capture some unique shots.

11. Accommodation prices are lower
As well as all these good reasons to visit the mountains in autumn, there’s another considerable advantage – the attractive prices of off-season accommodation. Renting accommodation out of season means considerable savings on your rental budget.
But make sure you choose your accommodation carefully.
First and foremost, the choice should be made on the basis of your “travel group” and the number of travellers. You should also pay close attention to the equipment and facilities available in these chalets, and select your accommodation according to the season in which you plan to travel. For a mountain holiday in autumn, it’s best to opt for accommodation with a spa, sauna or steam room, for example.
