From the food market to the endless number of Savoyarde restaurants, there are plenty of Annecy food specialties for you to sample on your next holiday. But, with all this choice, you may be struggling to decide what to eat in Annecy when you get there.
The OVO Network team is lucky enough to be based in this historic town, so we’ve had plenty of experience trying and testing the local cuisine. Here are our favourite things to eat…
Tartiflette
A trip to Annecy would not be complete without a staple Tartiflette! Made with local Reblochon cheese, potatoes, lardons, and onions – this hearty dish is guaranteed to satisfy your cheese craving! You’ll find Tartiflette on the menu at any Savoyarde restaurant in town.

Raclette and Fondue
Raclette and fondue are famous favourites in many ski resorts across the French Alps, and you’ll easily find them in many eateries in Annecy. There’s usually a two-person minimum with Raclette or Fondue and these great sharing meals are perfect if you’re looking for a major cheese fix on your trip!

Ice Cream
Come rain or shine, you can’t leave Annecy without trying at least one of the amazing ice cream parlours! There are plenty of choices when it comes to ice cream shops in the Old Town, but some do trump the rest!
The obvious choice is the Glacier des Alpes, which attracts hundreds of tourists particularly in peak summer months, and for very good reason. However, just a minute’s walk down the cobbled streets, you’ll find Le Palais des Glaces – with slightly more authentic flavours, beautifully presented, it’s definitely a must-try. If you’re heading there, we’d recommend the pistachio or Snickers flavour if it’s on the menu that day!
Waffles and Crêpes
It wouldn’t be a holiday in France without a Crêpe! Whether your preference is sweet or savoury, there are plenty of places to stop off for a Crêpe in Annecy. The Crêperie du Thiou is just one example, which sits just on the corner of the Place Perrière, with a stunning view of the Le Palais de I’Île (the old prison of Annecy).
If a waffle is what you’re after, we’re yet to find a waffle house better than Chez Gaston. Specialising in both sweet and savoury waffles, with a variety of different mouth-watering toppings, it’s the perfect place for a snack while shopping or exploring the town.
Patisserie and bakeries
You’re sure to find top-class patisseries and bakeries anywhere in France that you visit. But, Annecy has some unbeatable spots. For cakes, bread, and sandwiches, the Boulangerie Rouge offers a high-quality, fresh selection daily. We’d advise getting there early if you want to buy lunch, as they tend to run out of sandwiches early!
If you’re after a more decadent experience, Roses des Neiges has an incredible selection of patisserie, macarons, chocolate, and hot drinks. The interior of the café is just as pretty as the outside, providing some very Instagrammable opportunities!

Annecy food market is held every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday morning from around 8:00-12:00. We’d advise getting there as early as possible to avoid the busy crowds and to ensure traders haven’t run out of stock.
