Where is Morzine?
Morzine is based in the popular Portes du Soleil ski domain. It’s located around an hour and a half by car from Geneva airport
By plane
The easiest way to get to Morzine from the UK is to take a direct flight to Geneva airport. Most UK airports fly directly to Geneva and from there, you can catch a transfer to Morzine which takes around an hour and a half. Dublin is the only Irish airport that offers direct flights to Geneva.
Geneva isn’t the only option however, other airports you could travel to include Chambery airport, Lyon airport and Grenoble airport. However, because of the increased distance from Morzine ski resort, you would have to organise a lengthier and more expensive transfer, which we don’t usually recommend to our guests.

What do I need for the journey?
Travelling from Geneva airport to Morzine involves crossing the border from Switzerland to France. Most of the time, you will be able to cross without showing passports or documentation, but it’s a good idea to have these on your person if this is a requirement.
What are the cons of getting to Morzine from the UK by plane?
The main con is the expense of taking ski or snowboard equipment with you. If you’re an experienced skier with your own kit, you will know that booking extra baggage onto flights can add up, so this is something to factor in to your planning.
Transfers
If you’re travelling with younger children, getting a private transfer to Morzine may be a better option. As the vehicle is exclusively yours, you don’t have to wait at the airport for as long and you won’t have to travel to different stop off journeys.
If you’re a group of friends, or travelling alone, a shared transfer may be a better option. The benefit of sharing the transfer is that you can keep costs down, but you may be limited to more restrictive timings and longer waits, as well as having more stops on the way.

Car hire
Hiring a car is another option, especially if you’d like to have the option to drive whilst in resort. You can find the list of companies based out of Geneva airport here. If you’re flying into Geneva Airport, it’s worth checking with your car hire provider whether there are any different requirements or pick up points for your vehicle if you’re travelling to France.
It’s also important to bear in mind, however, that if you’re visiting in winter and are not confident driving in snow and using snow chains, we probably wouldn’t recommend hiring a vehicle. Morzine has a very frequent ski bus service that can take you all over resort, so you may find you won’t necessarily need a car throughout your stay.
By car
Many families often choose to drive from the UK to Morzine, because it helps to keep costs down. It’s also a really great option if you want to take your dog with you on holiday! Driving from the UK to France will involve you either boarding a ferry crossing or taking the Eurotunnel.

Ferry
Getting a ferry from the UK to France will take you from Dover to Calais. The DFDS service runs up to around 15 times per day and takes around an hour and a half.
Eurotunnel
The Eurotunnel is a great option if you’re travelling with children and pets. None of you have to leave the comfort of your car and the journey to France conveniently takes just under 40 minutes.
Calais to Morzine
Both the Eurotunnel and the ferry will arrive in Calais. From there, you will have an onward journey of 8-9 hours without break times factored in, therefore it may be an idea to plan in an overnight rest stop along the way, especially if you’re the only driver or you have young kids.
Although driving saves costs when it comes to expensive plane tickets and luggage, do bear in mind that French tolls are frequent and add up quickly. We’d recommend budgeting just under 200 euros for the tolls for your round trip.

What will you need?

By train
Using the train as your chosen mode of transport is possible, however it involves a lot of changes and you can’t get directly to Morzine. However, if you are still keen to get the train from the UK to Morzine, you can take the following route:
- London St. Pancras > Paris Gare du Nord Station (Eurostar)
- Paris Gare du Nord Station > Paris Gare de Lyon Station (Metro)
- Paris Gare de Lyon Station > Geneva Cornavin Station (Train)*
- Geneva Cornavin Station > Thonon-Les-Bains Station (Train)
- Thonon-Les-Bains Station > Morzine (Private transfer)
