Probably the most important aspect of any holiday is the destination. When on your family trip, it’s important you choose a great resort for families. The weeks of the February school holidays in particular can book up well in advance, with many people booking their self catered chalets a year before their trip. Other things to think about

Once you have chosen a fantastic family friendly chalet , you should start to look at some more of the logistics. Many ski hire shops have the option to book ahead and some even offer an in chalet fitting service which means you can avoid long queues. Keep an eye out for some great family ski deals too! Booking your lift passes is normally possible as well, meaning that you can be on the slopes even quicker!

Child friendly ski schools

These days there’s lots of choice for ski lessons and ski schools. The ESF remains a fantastic choice and offer a range of options including group and private lessons. Many of the smaller independent schools, however, have reduced group sizes which can be appealing for some families. Again, if you are planning your ski holiday during the school holidays booking ahead is essential.

Childcare

Young children simply can’t stay out on the slopes all day long and many children will be too young to ski at all. That doesn’t have to stop you getting out to the French Alps and having a fantastic family holiday.

There are lots of options for childcare these days. Many of the resorts have a day care centre called a “crêche” for children aged three and under, as well as kids clubs for older kids. Alternatively you can book a private nanny to come directly to your chalet. There are many nanny services, from larger organisations to independent nannies. The resorts often advertise these services through their websites.
